A new musical setting of The Lord’s Prayer available for Welsh Schools
A new exciting whole-school music setting of The Lord’s Prayer commissoned by Cadoxton Primary School is now made available for all schools in Wales. The dramatic, joyful and deeply thoughtful song version was created especially for the school’s weekly assemblies giving the children and staff opportunities to sing together.
The song is easy to learn and atmospheric with the music reflecting themes from the history of Wales – so as schools learn the music they get to explore stories of the early Welsh Celtic saints who shaped the development of faith in Wales, the growth of the medieval church and emergence of the non-comformist movement in the 18th and 19th century that brought renewed energy and life to the people of Wales. The piece ends in a contemporary and upbeat celebratory pop tempo.
“It’s like a mini-musical, and at the same time taking the whole school thoughtfully and joyfully through The Lord’s Prayer.”
The song comes with a resource pack for classroom teachers to help them enage with themes of faith, history, music, art, community and wellbeing.
The music was composed by professional musicians Noori Devlin and Richard Parry, specialists in providing musical education opportunities for children in schools and faith-based work. When learning and singing the song all schools are provided with a fully orchestrated backing track created by Welsh arranger Seimon Morris.
