CYMRAEG
Invitation to Churches
A welcome, lecture, discussion and tour – The New Library, Llantwit Major – 12th October 2022
Paul Tillich wrote a book about philosophy and politics in 1933. It led to his ejection from Germany by the Nazi Government. The book wasn’t translated into English until 1978.
On the eve of a conference and exploration of this book’s offer today in Wales we’re inviting Welsh churches – ministers, leaders, congregation members, ministers, administrators, leaders and anyone interested in theology and culture – to come along and discover why the New Library has taken a new cultural approach to faith and justice.
It’s not a heavy intellectual afternoon. There’ll be a cup of tea on arrival and a welcome from Canon Edwin Counsell from St Illtud’s Church, Llantwit Major. The Director of the New Library Richard Parry will introduce you to the conference’s theme of justice and public life illustrating that underneath Paul Tillich’s political philosophy there is a deep understanding of theology, and there’ll be a reflection from Canon Tim Llewellyn Jones, Director of Ministry of the Diocese of Llandaff. What can the church learn from this approach?
As part of the afternoon there will be a chance to explore the recently opened New Library.
Afternoon programme:

2.00pm Welcome and introduction from Canon Edwin Counsell
